FRENCH BREAKFAST PUFFS

1/3 cup margarine, butter or shortening          
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg (two if they’re really small)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder                                   
1/2 tsp. salt      
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (or less)                                 
1/2 cup milk or buttermilk

Mix butter, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Blend dry ingredients and mix in alternately with milk. It’s kind of a thick muffin batter.  Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 350 º for 20-25 minutes.

Melt 1/3 cup margarine or butter. In a separate bowl, stir together 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon. Immediately dip hot muffins in butter and then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
